Ozamiz City Mayor, Atty. Henry "Indy " F. Oaminal Jr., together with city officials, attended the much-anticipated Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Peace Covenant Signing held at the Ozamiz City Gym on October 10, 2023. This event marked a significant step in reaffirming the city's commitment to ensuring fair and honest Barangay and Sangguniang Elections (BSKE) in 2023.

During the ceremony, Mayor Indy Oaminal conveyed the strong support of the Local Government Unit (LGU) Ozamiz and its city officials for the efforts of COMELEC and other stakeholders, including law enforcement groups, to uphold the law in relation to the forthcoming elections. One of the primary focal points is the implementation of the "Kontra Bigay" policy, as set forth by the Commission on Elections and the Office of the President.

In his address, Mayor Oaminal stated, "To my fellow public officials and supporters, we will strictly adhere to the rules and laws set by COMELEC. The residents of Ozamiz have experienced the benefits of good governance, and it is our collective duty to ensure that the upcoming elections remain untarnished by illicit practices such as vote buying."

He further emphasized the city's unwavering commitment to curbing vote buying and electoral malpractices. "If we receive reports of vote buying in any area, I won't hesitate to enforce the law in collaboration with COMELEC and the law enforcement group. It's crucial to remember that this applies to all BSKE candidates in our locality. Let this serve as a fair warning – Ozamiz City is determined to uphold the integrity of our elections."

Looking ahead to the BSKE 2023, Mayor Oaminal emphasized the importance of allowing Ozamiznons to make informed decisions. "In this election, we will entrust the Ozamiznons with the responsibility of choosing candidates who are truly capable of serving the community. Let us adhere strictly to the principle of 'No Vote Buying, Just Pure Service.'"

In closing, Mayor Oaminal called for unity and dedication in the pursuit of a transparent, honest, and vote-buying-free election. The commitment of the LGU Ozamiz and the city officials was resoundingly clear – they stand together with COMELEC in preserving the integrity of the electoral process, ensuring that the voice of the people is heard without undue influence.
